TONIGHT, LIVING IN A FANTASY...

I am so beyond this weather...I mean, I know it's MILD here in Albuquerque but I still am so anxious for WARM weather....today there are flurries and gray skies and many areas around us are getting hammered with snow...I can't stop obsessing over tropical, soul heating weather. So... I am planning a trip, a fantastical one...and on my fantastical trip to an nonexistent island that no one knows of, I will be packing some of my favorite high end pieces that never in my lifetime will I ever be able to afford...ahhhhhh... happy thoughts, happy thoughts

This little baby is the first thing I would put on and just jump into the ocean...This Diane Von Furstenberg swimsuit is so perfect for playing in the water..so fun!

Lounging around on the beach under a giant umbrella all day with a cocktail in my hand in this Chanel swimsuit is my idea of perfection...

I would be scooting around shopping for local hand made goods in this vibrant Sonia Rykiel dress...(sans those shoes with netting)

This bathing suit would be more like my "at the pool after dark" suit...Loving this vintage inspired high waisted Bottega Veneta!

At night I would be lounging around like a rockstar in this super hot Stella McCartney number...

And naturally, these would be the only shoes I would bring... these Derek Lam cork heeled sandals go with everything!

OVER IT!!

I'm just getting over a wicked cold that knocked me on my ass on Sunday...I hate being sick (not like anyone really enjoys it)...but more than the achy, not able to move feeling, I HATE being congested and having to blow my nose A MILLION times...I'm sorry but even those Puff's Plus sucked all the moisture out of my face! By this morning I felt like my face was as dry as the Sahara and as red as a beet AND I can feel two days of sickness layered to my body. So I made some time for a little pampering (not like I'm doing anything else) so I can go back to work tomorrow...
#1. Kiehl's Soothing Gel Masque...I was so happy to pull out this little gem...The gel is sooo cool and soothing...exactly what my skin was craving...I put this on for 20 minutes and literally my redness was reduced immediately and hydration had resumed!!

#2 Origins Salt Rub...This product has been one of my MANY long time favorites and I never really realized how great it was for post cold until today...It is basically sea salt soaked in very rich oils so the scrub factor is divine...and then there is spearmint oil that really helps with opening up your senses (and sinuses)..you really feel like a new person after using it and your skin feels as soft as a baby's bottom!!

SPOTLIGHT SUNDAYS!!!!

I am starting a new project within my blog highlighting talented friends of mine...I am proud to say I have alot of them! Every third Sunday I will post a new artist...I will tell stories of how we met, give you info on their work and ask them 3 questions...Enjoy!

SPOTLIGHT SUNDAY: "DAHLING ACCESSORIES" BY GRETCHEN MILLER

Gretchen and I have a long history together...we met in high school in New Jersey...(in a speed reading class, no less)...Even though we hung out in different groups, I always thought Gretchen was sooo cool...she made all of her own clothes and really had a style like no one elses...I was drawn to her. It wasn't until she moved to Pennsylvania that we started a true friendship...we would right letters back and forth (no email in those days friends). I have to say that I was so excited to have someone who really understood the world the same way I did. We lost contact for a while, but then we both moved to Philadelphia at the same time and reconnected. In Philly, we were always together...hanging out, laughing (lots of laughing) and always planning on producing something in fashion together. We finally did and in 2002 we launched out handbag collection "Lolo + Gretch Dahling" (ahh... yes now the names are all making sense, right?) We had a really good run but our lives evolved and I ended up moving to Albuquerque and so Gretchen took over the company and shortened the name to "Dahling"!! I am so proud of her and her work looks better than ever. Gretchen has been such a major part of my life and has truly evolved me into the artist I am today...she is constantly teaching me new techniques and helping me with ANYTHING I need! I can't imagine what my life would have been like if we never crossed paths...she is truly one of the most inspiring and funniest people I know!!

"DAHLING ACCESSORIES BY GRETCHEN MILLER"
Dahling Accessories is an independent line of limited edition clutches, wristbags, beltbags and shoulderbags. It is important to me to design pieces that express individual style while being well made. My designs are limited edition. Many of my fabrics are vintage and once the fabric runs out, that's it. I truly believe in designing pieces that are special and affordable. Every bag has a fun lining or special detail that makes it unique.

I am passionate about designing bags that make women excited to get up each morning and wear that special piece. What we wear or carry can sometimes make or break a day, so I want my bags to give confidence and versatility to your wardrobe.

The Dahling Accessories' website launched in November 2009
http://www.shopdahling.com and it is the portal to all things Dahling. There you can find links to my blog www.gretchdahling.com and also to follow me on Twitter (www.twitter.com/shopdahling) and facebook (www.facebook.com/shopdahling). Dahling Accessories are sold online at my site through Etsy as well in select boutiques.

Question time!
#1 What is your first memory of knowing that you were interested in fashion and that is what you wanted to pursue?
My earliest memory of creating an "outfit" was when I designed and constructed my kindergarten Halloween costume entirely out of grocery bags without my mom's help or anything. But, I guess the real beginning was in high school when I started to experiment with my look and realized my love of vintage clothing. I knew I wanted to do something art related and fashion became my main interest. My senior year of high school I entered this contest to design a clog for John Fluevog. I didn't win, but it really started me on an ambition for designing and it just took off from there.

#2 What or who are your major influences/inspirations that you continually use today?
I have always felt like I missed my era- I love the mod looks of the mid 1960s to the bohemian styles of the late 60s to early 70s. I'm inspired by beautiful fabrics, eye-catching colors, vintage-esque trims and details. Putting fabrics together and designing something from nothing is inspiring to me. I also am so inspired by being around creative people with ambition. Maybe it's that old competitive spirit, but it just pushes me to do more and be better as a designer.

#3 What trend past or present really pisses you off??
Well, I would have to stay I have a few...In the 90s it was rolled up tapered stonewashed jeans- ugh! Now it's jeans that are too tight. I love a good skinny jean, but I see girls in these really tight jeans and it's just plain uncomforable looking and unflattering. The other one from today is this trend for 2-fers (aka faux layered tops). I must say, some are cute...but it's the tops that are supposed to look like there is a tank underneath. Most of the time, you can totally tell it's not layered and I just don't get it- why can't we just figure out which color tank to wear underneath? Have we gotten that lazy? Ok, I'm done...rant concluded.

check out dahling accessories immediately!! so cute, so fun!!
xoxoxoxo dahling!! thank you!!

CURRENT INSPIRATION....

GRACE KELLY in Alfred Hitchcock's "Rear Window"...I love her character in this movie...she comes off as a straight arrow, self sufficient, uptown girl with no grit but you soon find out that she has a hidden, yet intense, sense of adventure...it's fantastic!
AND naturally the best part of it is the fashion... one of my favorite eras is the 50's and Grace Kelly's costumes are divine...made by none other than the famous Edith Head...

BYE BYE LOVE

On a recent trip to the department store, I made a startling discovery...I feel like I can barely say it...Prescriptives is being discontinued as of January 31st :( So sad...it's a line that has been around for a long time now and a top pick of mine because of their superior range of color matching skintones. My favorite product ever is their Camouflage concealer...and now it is no more and sold out! The company is suggesting other lines and products that are similar...so if there is something you use from the line, a representative will let you know. They recommend Clinique All About Eyes concealer as a replacement to the Camouflage...I checked it out but haven't purchased it yet...it had a similar consistency but not the color range...uggghhh...You will be missed Prescritives...

OBSESSED WITH....

V.V. BROWN!!!
I first saw her a few weeks ago on Later...with Jools Holland and was blown away...besides being a total fashionista she has wicked pipes on her. She sang her breakout song "Crying Blood" and I still haven't gotten it out of my head...so good! I'm obsessed!
Check out her MySpace and her online vintage shop...V.V. Vintage...a girl after my own heart...Love you V.V.

YOU BETTER WATCH IT!!

I just rented VALENTINO: THE LAST EMPEROR, and it's amazing...truly inspiring...watching such dedication and longevity to the craft of making women beautiful makes me feel very happy inside! The documentary is also a glimpse into the remarkable 45 year relationship of Valentino and Giancarlo Giamatti, his life partner and behind the scenes business partner. Check it out...it could just be a dose what you need for some New Years motivation..

A LITTLE R&R

Happy New Year everyone!! I hope you all had a great celebration!! After a week of festivities you all might need a little R&R before you head back to reality on Monday! Here are some home recipes I found that you can pamper yourself with....

PUMPKIN AND SPICE FULL-BODY EXFOLIANT
**Mix 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon ground clove, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 cup canned pumpkin, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 ounces grapeseed oil.
**Apply to whole body, wrap yourself up in a sheet and blanket, and rest for 30 minutes.
**Rinse in shower and apply moisturizing oil such as almond, sesame or coconut liberally.

HOT SPICED-CIDER FOOTBATH
**Mix 1 cup apple cider, 2 ounces coconut oil, 2 ounces grapeseed oil, 2 teaspoon rum extract, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, 3 teaspoons ground allspice, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 4 cloves.
**Pour ingredients into foot tub and add hot water until ankles are covered.
**Let your feet soak for 5-10 minutes

Enjoy my dahlings!
